Saul Leiter (1923–2013) è stato un fotografo e pittore americano considerato un pioniere della fotografia di strada a colori. Nato a Pittsburgh, nel 1946 si trasferì a New York per dedicarsi alla pittura, ma ben presto si orientò sempre più verso la fotografia. Nel 1953, Edward Steichen espose le sue opere al Museum of Modern Art. Influenzato dalla pittura, Leiter creò immagini intime e suggestive della vita urbana. Sebbene a lungo trascurato, il suo innovativo lavoro a colori gli assicurò in seguito la reputazione di figura di spicco della fotografia del XX secolo.

Saul Leiter (1923–2013) was an American photographer and painter regarded as a pioneer of color street photography. Born in Pittsburgh, he moved to New York City in 1946 to pursue painting, but soon turned increasingly to photography. In 1953, Edward Steichen exhibited his work at the Museum of Modern Art. Influenced by painting, Leiter created intimate, atmospheric images of urban life. Though long overlooked, his innovative color work later secured his reputation as a major figure in 20th-century photography.
