Questo imponente iceberg si svela ai nostri occhi come una presenza monumentale, avvolta da una sottile nebbia che ne aumenta il fascino misterioso. La fotografia, realizzata in Groenlandia nel 2021, nasce nell’ambito di un progetto che aveva l’obiettivo di raccontare, attraverso le immagini, il rapporto tra l’uomo e l’ambiente naturale. Il fotografo affronta, così, uno dei temi centrali e più urgenti del nostro tempo - e di quello delle generazioni future: il cambiamento climatico.
Nella tranquillità apparente dell’immagine rimane evidente l’allarmante solco lasciato dallo scioglimento del ghiaccio.

This towering iceberg reveals itself to our eyes as a monumental presence, surrounded by a thin fog that enhances its mysterious charm. The photograph, taken in Greenland in 2021, is part of a project that aimed to portray, through images, the relationship between humans and the natural environment. The photographer thus addresses one of the central and most urgent issues of our time – and that of future generations: climate change. Amidst the apparent tranquillity of the image, the alarming furrow left by the melting ice is clearly visible.

Paolo Pellegrin è nato a Roma nel 1964. Dopo aver studiato architettura, il suo interesse si focalizza
sulla fotografa. Dopo essere stato rappresentato per dieci anni dall’Agence Vu, nel 2001 entra a far parte di Magnum Photos come nominee, diventando membro a pieno titolo nel 2005. Durante la sua carriera Pellegrin è stato insignito di numerosi premi, tra cui undici World Press Photo, un Hasselblad Foundation Grant for Photography, una Leica Medal of Excellence, un Olivier Rebbot Award, l'Hansel-Meith Preis, il Robert Capa Gold Medal Award e il Leica European Publishers Award. Nel 2006 gli è stato assegnato il W. Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography.

Paolo Pellegrin was born in Rome in 1964. After studying architecture, his interest focused on photography. After being represented by Agence Vu for ten years, he joined Magnum Photos in 2001 as a nominee, becoming a full member in 2005. During his career, Pellegrin has been awarded numerous prizes, including eleven World Press Photo, a Hasselblad Foundation Grant for Photography, a Leica Medal of Excellence, an Olivier Rebbot Award, the Hansel-Meith Preis, the Robert Capa Gold Medal Award, and the Leica European Publishers Award.
