The Echo of Our Voices è il quarto capitolo della serie The Day May Break. È stato fotografato in Giordania, il secondo Paese al mondo per scarsità d’acqua. Le fotografie ritraggono famiglie di rifugiati, fuggite dalla guerra in Siria e oggi residenti in Giordania. La serie mette in luce il legame e la forza di fronte alle avversità, dimostrando che, quando tutto il resto è perduto, ci si ha ancora l’un l’altro. Le pile di scatole su cui le famiglie siedono e stanno in piedi insieme si slanciano verso il cielo: una verticalità che suggerisce un maggiore senso di forza e di sfida e che offre un piedistallo a coloro che nella nostra società sono tipicamente invisibili.

The Echo of Our Voices is the fourth chapter of the series The Day May Break. It was photographed in Jordan, the second most water-scarce country in the world. The photographs feature refugee families, who fled the war in Syria and are now living in Jordan. The series shows connection and strength in the face of adversity, proving that when all else is lost you still have each other. The stacks of boxes that the families sit and stand together on aim skyward - a verticality implying more sense of strength or defiance - and provide pedestals for those that in our society are typically unseen.

Nick Brandt (1964) è nato a Londra, dove ha studiato pittura e cinema alla Saint Martin’s School of Art. Durante il suo lavoro in Tanzania negli anni ’90, ha sviluppato un profondo legame con l’Africa orientale e la fauna selvatica. Ha successivamente realizzato la trilogia fotografica On This Earth (2000–2005), A Shadow Falls (2009) e Across the Ravaged Land (2013), seguita da Inherit the Dust (2016) e This Empty World (2019). Dal 2020 lavora alla serie globale The Day May Break. Brandt ha esposto in tutto il mondo, tra cui New York, Londra, Berlino, Stoccolma, Shanghai, Oslo, Parigi e Los Angeles.

Nick Brandt (1964) was born in London, where he studied painting and film at Saint Martin’s School of Art. While working in Tanzania in the 90s, he developed a deep connection to East Africa and wildlife. He later created the photo trilogy On This Earth (2000–2005), A Shadow Falls (2009) and Across the Ravaged Land (2013), followed by Inherit the Dust (2016) and This Empty World (2019). Since 2020, he has worked on the global series The Day May Break. Brandt has exhibited worldwide, including in New York, London, Berlin, Stockholm, Shanghai, Oslo, Paris and Los Angeles.
