La figura ritratta è Leni Riefensthal, la famosa fotografa e regista che lavorò anche per il regime nazista. Lo scatto venne realizzato poco prima che Munkacsi fu costretto a fuggire in America per lo scoppio della Seconda Guerra Mondiale.

The figure portrayed is Leni Riefensthal, the famous photographer and director who also worked for the Nazi regime. The photograph was taken shortly before Munkacsi was forced to flee to America due to the outbreak of World War II.

Ai suoi tempi l’ungherese Martin Munkacsi (1896-1963) fu uno dei fotografi più famosi al mondo. I suoi scatti dinamici di soggetti sportivi, attori, politici e di scene della vita di strada in Germania e in Ungheria nella fine degli anni ’20 e ’30 del Novecento furono ritenute portavoce di un nuovo stile di libertà in grado di catturare la velocità e il movimento dell’era moderna.

At his time, the Hungarian Martin Munkacsi (1896-1963) was one of the most famous photographers in the world. His dynamic shots of sportsmen, actors, politicians and scenes of street life in Germany and Hungary in the late 20s and 30s of the XXth century, were considered pioneer for a new style of freedom, capable of capturing the speed and the movement of the Modern Era.
