La celebre fotografia della rete del pescatore di Leo Matiz, nota anche come "La Red" (scattata intorno al 1939 a Puebloviejo, Colombia), è un'icona del fotogiornalismo latinoamericano che cattura la dura vita quotidiana dei pescatori caraibici con un'estetica poetica, trasformando un atto di sopravvivenza in un'opera d'arte visiva tra luce e ombra.

Leo Matiz's famous photograph of the fisherman's net, also known as "La Red" (taken circa 1939 in Puebloviejo, Colombia), is an icon of Latin American photojournalism that captures the harsh daily life of Caribbean fishermen with a poetic aesthetic, transforming an act of survival into a work of visual art between light and shadow.

Leo Matiz nacque ad Aracataca, Colombia, dove nacque Garcia Márquez's in Macondo, nell’anno 1917. Le sue fotografie sono testimonianza degli eventi più significanti della nostra storia.
Leo Matiz, influente fotografo, caricaturista e gallerista, apportò grande contributo nella pubblicità, nel cinema e nel mercato dell’arte, e fu il fondatore della prima galleria d’arte in Bogotà, nella quale furono esibiti per la prima volta, i capolavori di Fernando Botero. Matiz è un artista riconosciuto a livello internazionale, alcune delle sue migliori opere sono esposte al MoMa di New York. Muore a Bogotá nel 1998.

Leo Matiz was born in Aracataca, Colombia, where García Márquez was born in Macondo, in 1917. His photographs bear witness to the most significant events in our history.Leo Matiz, an influential photographer, caricaturist, and gallery owner, made significant contributions to advertising, film, and the art market. He founded the first art gallery in Bogotá, where Fernando Botero's masterpieces were first exhibited. Matiz is an internationally recognized artist, with some of his finest works exhibited at the MoMA in New York. He died in Bogotá in 1998.
