Realizzate tra il 2019 e il 2021 in piccole località del Centro-Nord della Spagna, le immagini appartengono al progetto Spanish Summer. L’artista, fedele alla poetica si muove nel tessuto urbano fissando visioni con la sua macchina medio formato 6x6.
Le immagini assecondano quello che l’artista definisce “il piacere di guardare” e cercano di tradurre tale sentimento attraverso equilibri geometrici e tonali raffinatissimi. I soggetti rivelano la capacità dell’autore di posizionarsi laddove l’entropia del paesaggio, urbano e naturale, si ricompone in un ordine che solo l’uso della macchina fotografica riesce a sorprendere e fermare.

Produced between 2019 and 2021 in small towns of Central-Northern Spain, the images belong to the project Spanish Summer. The artist moves through the urban fabric, capturing visions with his 6x6 medium-format camera.The images follow what the artist calls “the pleasure of looking” and seek to translate this feeling through highly refined geometric and tonal balances. The subjects reveal the artist’s ability to position himself where the entropy of the landscape, both urban and natural, reorganizes into an order that only the photographic medium can capture and preserve.

Johansson è uno dei più rinomati fotografi svedesi. Lavorando prevalentemente in bianco e nero e prediligendo il formato quadrato, Johansson è attratto dai dettagli trascurati dello spazio urbano. Ha lavorato negli Stati Uniti, in Svezia, Italia, Giappone, Germania e Spagna. Le opere di Johansson sono conservate nelle collezioni del Moderna Museet di Stoccolma, in Svezia, e nella Tangen Collection del Kunstsilo di Kristiansand, in Norvegia. Dal 1985 Johansson ha pubblicato oltre trenta libri, tra cui i recenti Maine (The Ice Plant, 2024). È stato premiato con il Swedish Arts Grants Committee’s Award (2012), con il Lars Tunbjörk Prize (2019) e la Prince Eugen Medal (2024).

Johansson is one of Sweden’s most renowned photographers. Working primarily in black and white and favoring the square format, he is drawn to the overlooked details of urban space. His works are held in the collections of the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Sweden, and the Tangen Collection at Kunstsilo in Kristiansand, Norway. Since 1985, Johansson has published more than thirty books, including the recent Maine (The Ice Plant, 2024). He has received the Swedish Arts Grants Committee’s Award (2012), the Lars Tunbjörk Prize (2019), and the Prince Eugen Medal (2024).
