Nelle sue immagini, Chloé dà grande risalto ai gesti e ai corpi spesso tatuati, i cui motivi talvolta prolunga oltre i confini dell'immagine. Il suo lavoro su queste donne giapponesi è stato premiato nel 2017, al suo ritorno in Francia, con la Bourse du Talent ed esposto alla Bibliothèque nationale de France. I suoi sette anni di immersione in Giappone hanno dato vita a numerose altre immagini, in bianco e nero, che mettono in luce gli aspetti sconosciuti e sovversivi della società giapponese. In her images, Chloé gives prominence to gestures and often tattooed bodies, sometimes extending the patterns beyond the frame of the image. Her work on these Japanese women was recognised in 2017 upon her return to France with the Bourse du Talent award and exhibited at the Bibliothèque nationale de France. Her seven years of immersion in Japan have resulted in numerous other black-and-white images highlighting the little-known and subversive aspects of Japanese society. She offers a striking vision of a complex and enigmatic country, beyond preconceived notions.

Chloé Jafé è una fotografa francese nata a Lione nel 1984. Formatasi a Lione, Parigi e Londra, ha sviluppato un approccio che unisce fotografia documentaria e artistica. Dopo un'esperienza presso Magnum Photos a Londra, nel 2014 si è trasferita a Tokyo.
Qui porta avanti un progetto unico: per sei anni, un boss della Yakuza le concede l'accesso alla sua cerchia e le permette di fotografare la vita privata delle donne della mafia giapponese. Raramente visibili eppure influenti, queste donne sono al centro del suo lavoro, che mette in risalto i loro corpi tatuati, i loro gesti e la loro resilienza.

Chloé Jafé is a French photographer born in Lyon in 1984. Trained in Lyon, Paris and London, she has developed an approach that combines documentary and visual photography. After working at Magnum Photos in London, she moved to Tokyo in 2014.
There she undertook a unique project: for six years, a Yakuza boss granted her access to his entourage and allowed her to photograph the private lives of the women of the Japanese mafia. Rarely seen yet highly influential, these women are at the heart of her work, which highlights their tattooed bodies, their gestures and their resilience.
