L'opera fa parte del progetto fotografico Aam Aastha, realizzato in India dal 2019 al 2022. Dal 1999, Charles Fréger ha costruito un vasto corpus fotografico, prendendo invariabilmente come soggetto centrale gli esseri umani e la loro pelle sociale. A volte vestito in uniforme, a volte ricoperto da un trucco tigrato o da un costume ricoperto di muschio, il soggetto appare nel processo di trasformazione in umano, animale o vegetale. Il costume svolge il suo ruolo, incarnando, a volte, il legame con la comunità, altre, i cicli della natura e le credenze. Prodotti nell'arco di diversi anni, coem gli altri suoi progetti anche questo e' culminato in un libro.

The work is part of the photographic project Aam Aastha, carried out in India from 2019 to 2022. Since 1999, Charles Fréger has built up an extensive photographic corpus, invariably taking human beings and their social skins as his central subject. Sometimes dressed in uniform, sometimes covered in tiger-striped make-up or a moss-covered costume, the subject appears in the process of becoming human, animal or plant. The costume plays its role, embodying, here, the link to the community, there, the cycles of nature and beliefs. Produced over several years, his projects culminate in a book.

Charles Fréger, nato nel 1975, vive in Normandia, Francia. Fréger ha studiato all'École supérieure d'art et design Le Havre-Rouen di Rouen. È noto soprattutto per la sua serie di ritratti fotografici di persone in uniforme, lavori che giocano sul rapporto tra i segni di appartenenza a un gruppo e l'individualità di chi la indossa. Negli ultimi anni ha esposto al Musée d'histoire de Nantes, al Musée des confluences (Lione), alla Fondazione Armani (Milano) e ai Rencontres d'Arles. Fréger è fondatore di un network internazionale di artisti, Piece of Cake (POC).

Charles Fréger, born in 1975, lives in Normandy, France. Fréger was a student at the École supérieure d'art et design Le Havre-Rouen in Rouen. He is best known for his series of photographic portraits of people in Uniform which play on the relationship between the signs of belonging to a group and the individuality of of the wearer. In recent years, he has exhibited at the Musée d’histoire de Nantes, the Musée des confluences (Lyon), the Armani Foundation (Milan) and the Rencontres d’Arles. Fréger is a founder of an international network of artists, Piece of Cake (POC)
